Hi everyone,
We booked a balcony cabin port side (the last one left) on the Star Princess.
Cabin number is A502 on the Aloha deck, it appears to be underneat the swimming area, has anyone been in a cabin underneat the pool? and did you have a lot of noise?
We are boarding on Dec 8 - Valparaiso to Rio 14 days...
Any recommendations for tours in Punta Arena? Ushuaia? Montevideo? Bueno Aires?

Hi Lucie, welcome to Cruise-Chat. What a fantastic itinerary you have. We've been on the Aloha deck in the 480s and have never had any trouble with noise. It's a very convenient location, not far from the buffet. We weren't very far from the elevators either. On the decks that are mainly cabin decks, the traffic isn't bad, so there's not much noise. The pools won't be in much use at night, at least they haven't been on any of our cruises. Most everyone is busy doing other things. Wish I could help you out on the excursions, but we haven't been on that itinerary. If you'll use your "Find" feature in the upper left hand corner, type in your ports, it will pull up all the posts made about them. You might be able to find something of interest. Best wishes for a fantastic cruise and once again, welcome aboard!
Thanks Penny,
We are used to Caribe and Baja decks, we did have a cabin on Celebrity that was directly below some walking/sporting deck and we got pounded on early mornings, that's what has me concern about the Aloha deck, but then who wants to sleep late when there's georgeous scenery going by?????
What a trip you have planned! In most places, you can take "local" tours in vans for a lot less cost than the ship tours. This is true for Ushuaia, Montevideo, Buenos Aires. I suggest you take the ferry in Punta Arenas to Magdalena Island to see the penguins. We booked this thru the ship and it is fantastic! It is the easiest way to see the penguins and an easy tour. I have not been to Rio so cannot speak to that.
Thank you MSCNO, I have booked Buenos Aires tango tour thru the ship, and Volunteer Point Falkand Islands with a local guide, the penguins are supposed to be the best (5 kinds). I will follow your advice on the other ports..
