We are heading off on our first cruise in October 2009 aboard the Grand Princess doing the Egypt Explorer cruise. We are booking a Ocean view with Balcony and cannot decide which deck to be on. It is down to Baja or Caribe. We enjoy our privacy and peace and quiet, particularly at night. Whch is best? Any info from the seasoned cruisers out there would be appreciated.

Robyn, there is some information in the thread "Dolphin Deck Diamond Princess" that addresses your question. All the large Princess ships are basically the same.

In brief, the balconies on Caribe Deck are bigger but they are partially uncovered. If privacy is an issue for you, you might prefer the smaller but covered balconies of Baja Deck. As for peace and quiet, either deck will be very quiet because there are passenger cabins above and below each. But keep in mind the closer you are to the bow or stern, the less foot traffic you will have past your cabin.

Hi Robyn, welcome to Cruise-Chat. Hope you enjoy your cruise, it sounds like a fantastic voyage. Hope you like Princess as much as we do, they're our favorite line, so far. We've stayed on the Baja, Caribe, Dolphin and Aloha decks in balconies. The traffic on these decks is minimal, since it is limited to other passengers on those decks or passengers visiting other passengers on those decks. You'll have more traffic close to an elevator, but we've never had any problems with noise. Best wishes for a fantastic cruise, and once again, welcome aboard!

I have been the Grand Princess a few times, we like the Baha deck, the higher you are the less people can look down on you on the balcony...its always best to stay mid-ship...
