Does anyone know if we're allowed on the Grand to bring vanilla on board? We love to cook and I've always heard that it's pretty cheap there. I'd like to find out before we buy some!!! Thanks.

I have brought it back in my suitcase on many cruise lines with no problem. Only once, when reboarding the ship, did security question it. I stated straightfaced it was great for my sunburn, I had not bought it to consume. I was waved through.

Thank you so much. We just weren't sure if it was allowed or not. We'll try it.

Riptide,
I have purchased it on numerous cruises as that seems to be what all my friends ask me to bring back from Mexico for them and not once have I ever been stopped or questioned. Let us know what happens.

Be sure you get stuff made from vanilla beans (if you can find it), and not a plant that grows down there that is similar (thus the price). The plant is quite pretty and smells wonderful--check it out if you go on jungle tours. Our guide told us about it. You can use Mexican Vanilla, but in large quantities I have heard it is toxic. I'm not sure if it tastes the same or not. As far as getting in onboard, I saw it in duty free shops so I assumed, but then again I didnt try it.

Good Luck!!
