With the new smoking regulations being announces on NCL & RCCI has anyone heard of Princess changing their smoking policies? - especially after the fire aboard the Star Princess last year I would have thought they would have been the first to do so.
Princess always had smoking policies. You are restricted to one side of the ship, designated bars, designated areas in the casino, balconies only if you do not leave your ashtray outside when you are not in the cabin. They have changed out flammable items on the balconies with nonflammable, placed sprinkler systems and fire detectors on the balconies, and have fire marshalls.
The smoking policy on Princess was very similar to RCCI until recently which isn't a very good one at that. People constantly abuse the non smoking side of the ship by the pool. They think nothing about walking by with a lit cigarette in their hand a they puff away thinking no one will notice. At least the indoor pool are was smoke free as was the lower section during a muts movie. The designated non-smoking area in the bars doesn't work at all. During a comedian show on my last cruise you could hardly breath & I wound up standing out in the entrance way leaning in to hear the show. The casino non smoking area is another farce- how can anyone expect the smoke to not spread through the casino? They don't really care since their profits are more important unless enough people complain & let their feeling be known.
We have recently returned from a trip around the Baltic on the Star Princess, and as a smoker myself i have to say i did only smoke in the designated areas.
Some people however, do ignore the rules and do what they like regardless, but please don't assume all smokers are disrespectful of other people. It annoys me when people walk around with a cigarette in their hand especially when there are young children around and could easily be burnt by a careless smoker.
