Now that we are back from the fantastic Alaska cruise, I wonder if you think the price was good. I can't help but wonder since a co-worker is going on an Alaskan cruise in August and his is a whopping two thousand less. Anyway the cruise, air and one night at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver was $6094.04. What do you think?

Need a few more details like:

How many nights was the cruise;
which ship;
what catagory stateroom;
is that per person or for two;
where did you fly from/to;

and we need all the same information for your co-worker to make a comparison.

Then you need to ask yourself, "do I really want to know this?"
If we tell you it was really a good deal you will feel pretty good; but what if the verdict is, "hey, you really got burned!"?

Of course, you're right. What was I thinking? 7 Nights - Voyage of the Glaciers - Princess Diamond - Balcony Stateroom - 6/23 - 6/30

And by the way, I'm just curious. We started saving last Fall!! We paid by the end of January!

Oh - co-worker - Celebrity - veranda - 7 night Seattle to Seward - in August.

Nothing would ruin our memories. We had such a fantastic time - it was worth every penny! ...but - I would negotiate better next time if it was high.....

Hopefully our friend Neil will add to this, but there is really no negotiating involved; it's not like buying a car. You are offered a package for a price and you either accept it or look elsewhere.

And you still haven't given any details on air. You must have flown business class or better. If your co-worker got a Celebrity cruise for $2000 less than a comparable Princess cruise, either he got a fantastic deal or, dare I say it? You took a bath.

My Princess brochure shows the best balcony cabin, catagory BA, for your sailing date as $1989 or $3978 for two. That means you paid at least $2116 for air and one night at Four Seasons. According to the same brochure, one night at Four Seasons is $149 pp or $298 for two. That leaves $1818 for air, or $909 for each. That's really high unless you upgraded the air.

But something tells me your co-worker may be fudging a little, or a lot on his $4000 Celebrity cruise, if that includes air from the same city--hello! If he's a co-worker, or course it's the same city.

Anyway, there are still pieces missing from this puzzle.

Boy how I hate this type of comments. I have this all the time with my co-workers and I just ignore them. There is always someone who has to beat you on a price or cost of something. There are so many variable that it's not worth doing a comparsion, plus why worry about these things if you enjoy your cruise. That's what counts!!!
We just came back from a beauiful Diamond cruise and land tour and it was wonderful. My wife felt like a PRINCESS!! We are eager to re-book, but can't afford it right now. We had the complete package booked thru a travel agency including air/cruise/pre-hotel in Vancouver and 1 extra night in Fairbanks. This was our first cruise and Princess was wonder in every manner. We found out that our plane was cancel on our trip home to Toronto, but the Princess rep in Fairbanks went out of her way to get us re-book, as this was not Princess fault. If anyone needs any question answer on the Alaska cruise, or on the Diamond or on the Alaska land tour, I will try to help.
Take care,
Keith

Glad to hear you enjoyed your Princess cruise wooddon, they're my favorite line. Like y'all have stated it's hard to do a comparison without all the facts, but Princess is normally very competitve in their pricing. Best wishes and hope to see your next cruise booked soon!

Thanks so much for the comments. Whether the price was high or not, I was so very thankful we saved enough for it. I was so thankful we did not have to spend much at all beyond the cruise, and I would do a cruise again!!! Woodon, it sounds like if you just got back, that you must have been on our ship 6/23 - 6/30! Wasn't Alaska beautiful?!! Most of you are saying Princess is your favorite....what if we want to take another cruise line for variety when we go on our next cruise to the Caribbean? What is your "second best"???

Hi Julie, I'm with wooddon on this one. There seems to always be someone out there who saved thousands, got an upgrade to a suite from an inside cabin and thier agent threw in enough onboard credit to buy that helecopter ride to a glacier. It's the same guy who is an astronaut at the bar and his other car is a Rolls Royce but he doesn't drive it, leaves it in the garage to protect the value.

It does seem your pricing is just a little higher than you may have been able to do. I'm guessing you booked the air/hotel through the cruiseline. You can do a lot better with pricing if you go to the extra time and trouble to research these independent of the cruiseline. Some prefer the convenience over the savings though. Rick's right about the negotiating part. You can't really do it, the pricing is electronic and is what it is. You can however shop. Timing is everything with cruises. Some drop when the time gets closer and some climb. I always book early and keep an eye on the pricing as time goes by. Many wait until the last minute and and try and cherry pick the sailings that are not full and drop at the end. You can't be picky about cabin, location on the ship or dining times available if you try this. Also there is some risk in this method. Balconies sell out early for Alaska sailings. On the one way sailings balconies and suites on the view side of the ship may be gone 6 months out. There is no right or wrong answer to what is the best time or what is a better value. Price doesn't always equate to value. There are just too many factors. The fact that you had a great time and feel it was worth every penny means you recieved a great value. The rest is kinda like hanging out in the casino, there is some luck and guessing involved, even for those of us who deal with cruises and cruise pricing every day of our lives.

Cheers, Neil

What are you comments about the food quality on the Dimond? How was the selection in the buffet?
Thanks
