I know that princess has some charges like for the steakhouse but i see on their website that ice cream and pastry say "based on consumption?" What does this mean? Do you even have to pay for the ice cream?
For both pastry and ice cream there are speciality areas where there is a charge for this.
For both items however, there are times when these items are included with your meal - i.e. as dessert. Princess also serves their homemade ice cream in the buffet around 3pm in the afternoon and its free of charge.

The Princess room service menu has bugers, fries, cookies, general salads and sandwiches available 24-hours a day. For breakfast unless you are in a suite it is continental - juice, rolls, fruit, coffee, and tea. Don't expect anything fancy but if you are hungry it's a nice way to get a quick bite without having to go track the food down.
The ice cream they sell is Hagen Daz and it is priced accordingly ($3 per cone, $4-5 per sundae). Honestly, with so much free food included, I've never felt the need to purchase this sort of thing.
