Ruby Princess to the Med

OK, I admit it I am a die hard Celebrity fan. However I have been so very curious about Princess and reading all the comments from Penny, F Mattox, Lisa etc that I am going to take the plunge on the Ruby Princess. What am I in for with this pretty ship? Tips on any specialty restaurant etc. Thank you :OD

janfred, congratulations on your decision to give Princess a try. I haven't been on Ruby Princess yet--although I am taking an Eastern Caribbean cruise on her this November--but one of my favorite things about Princess is the continuity and uniformity of service, cuisine, entertainment, activities, etc. from ship to ship; so I feel very confident in telling you you will have a great cruise.

Just a couple of random thoughts: we love Sabatini's; it is a complete change of pace and menu from the main dining rooms--well worth it. Crown Grill was very good, but not that much better than the main dining rooms to warrant the extra fee, IMHO :-)

If you want the dining experience of a lifetime try to book the Chef's Table. I hear it's up to $90.00 now but worth every penny--that is if you think a dinner specially prepared and served to twelve people by the Executive Chef and his staff, including a personally guided tour of the galley, with hors d'oeurves and French champagne, and wines with every course selected and served by the sommelier, plus an autographed copy of the Princess cookbook and a photo of the whole group presented before the evening is over--is worth $90.00.

I hear The Sanctuary is very nice if you want to be pampered in a soothing atmosphere. Personally, I prefer the Terrace Pool, all the way aft: it is quiet, the Outrigger Bar is right there, and the Horizon Court is just steps away.

But whatever your preferences, I'm sure you will find Ruby Princess very pleasurable and the staff very accommodating.

Since you will be cruising aboard Ruby before I will, I look forward to your thoughts and comments on you return.

Rick

Rick,
Thank you for the quick reply. I am really getting excited now, I had heard great things about Sabatini's and we will try that for sure. Reading your post on Princess thru the years, I always remember the wonderful things you mentioned about Princess, along with the others as well. I will certainly come back and give my thoughts and comments when I return. :OD

Dates to avoid on the Ruby;
Oct 24 - Nov 4, 2012 AND
November 4 - 11, 2012
These are not a family orientated cruses and you might be in for a not so pleasant surprise.

f-mattox 04-01-2012 04:13 PM

RichC, would you care to be more specific? I mean, you can't just drop a teaser like that and then leave us hanging :-)

Oct 24 - Nov 4, 2012 HIV positive cruise
November 4 - 11, 2012 Bear cruise

If neither if those bother you then have fun.
I wouldn't cancel if I had it booked but if I was just starting to look around & it didn't make much difference which weeks to book it certainly wouldn't be my first choice no matter how much of a discount they were offering.

I'm booked on the Nov. 11 sailing; looks like I just missed 'em. Noro dosen't bother me but I'd sure think twice about a HIV cruise. By the way, that Nov. 4-11 cruise, is that a "Bear" cruise or a "Bare" cruise? Neither one much interests me.

Well, the Bears are practically bare.

Janfred, I am so excited for you. I really, really, really think you'll love Princess. The Ruby is just like the Emerald. They have an International Cafe, Sanctuary, Sabatini, Crown Grill, shops, casino, and so on and so on. I can't wait to hear your report when you return. I'll bet you'll find Princess to be one of your favorites! Not to mention a fantastic itinerary. I, personally, enjoyed the Crown Grill more than Sabatini's, but only because there was so much to eat at Sabatini's. I think Princess finally heard from enough people that they have changed the way they do Sabatini's and you don't have to eat as much. Both of them were fabulous, but I've never had any problems with the MDR food. We've done Anytime dining on our last 4 or 5 cruises on Princess and have really enjoyed it. We always share a table, and have not had any problems getting a table. Sure wish I were going with y'all!
