Sapphire Princess

I just read an as yet unconfirmed report that Sapphire Princess is going to join Diamond Princess in the Japanese market next year. The Diamond Princess move has already been announced, although she has been in the Asia market for years; and Crown Princess is coming to the West Coast to take Sapphire Princess' place for the Coastal Cruises; so Sapphire's move to Japan seems logical.

I was sorry to see Diamond move to Asia years ago because she and Sapphire are my favorite Grand Class ships--their design is just different enough to make them feel much more open and spacious than the others. And now Sapphire is going also.

Oh well, I have Royal Princess and Regal Princess to fall in love with.

Asia is smoking hot for the cruise industry and only getting bigger. Singapore has a new cruise facility that can accomodate Oasis-class ships and the rumor is the 3rd Oasis ship currently being built will go to Asia.

Good for Asia, but bad for us! Flying all that way for a cruise is not something I'll be doing on a routine basis.

I see that the Royal Princess' ship horn is going to play the first few notes of "The Love Boat" theme a la Disney's "When You Wish Upon a Star;" kind of strange considering they dropped "The Love Boat" tag years ago. Oh well, I always thought "Where I Belong" and "Escape Completely" were weak. Looks like the show bands are going to have to dust off the old arrangement with which they used to start every show.

Did you play it?

Paul Motter at Cruisemates toured the Royal Princess today too. I am looking forward to his comments and photos. I am quite enthused by the latest edition of what has become a tradition with Princess - having a 'Royal' lady in the fleet.

No Dave, I didn't; I played for Princess from '74 to '78 and the TV show didn't start until Fall '77 and it was several years before Princess adopted the name and the theme song.

It's unfortunate that they keep moving the smaller ships out of the US market. It's still one of the Princess ships we have yet to sail on & probably never will now. It never seemed to be in Florida when we wanted to go.
We just recently were on the Island for the first time in years & I had forgotten how nice it was in size compared to the Emerald, Ruby or Crown.
