In a press release I received Friday Princess announced it had secured rights "not only to
broadcast the Academy Awards, but also to showcase the awards ceremony on its huge 'Movies Under the Stars' screens." Unfortunately, at this time only the Grand and the Caribbean Princess are equipped with the screens. The other ships in the fleet planned to air the show in the main showrooms.
However, something I just discovered regarding Princess and the Oscars I found of even more interest. Apparently, Princess has a reputaion for throwing a big Academy Awards bash every year on their ships. Princess supplies their own "red carpet" that passengers decked in their finest formal wear stroll down posing for "paparazzi" photographers. Other highlights include special cocktails, prize giveaways and even a shipboard fashion critic who pronounces winners and losers. What fun!
Since I am a film buff and love to don my formal wear, I think I should plan to be sailing on a Princess vessel for next year's Academy Awards.
Nancy,
I have been on Princess ships for the past 2 years for the awards shows. Last year on the Coral, this year the Golden.
This year the program was on our SailAway night.
They did not have any announcement about wearing formal attire & pics. However, they do have it broadcast in the theatre & lounges. They also do have some contests, etc.
I have enjoyed being able to see the show even at sea!
