Read the latest news HERE as the Tahitian Princess undergoes drydock upgrades and will be re-named Ocean Princess.

Those drydock journals are facinating. It's amazing how much work they can do in two weeks--without all those workers tripping over each other.

I was on two navy ships as they were drydocked. The most impressive was when the carrier Nimitz was floated in and put on the blocks at Newport News. Those shipyard workers are artists at putting these huge ships on those little blocks. It has to be perfect each time or it can buckle the keel.

Gives a whole new dimension to the term "up on blocks".

I wonder why the need to change her name? I hope they are still going to offer the itineraries for Tahiti. One day, Lord willing, I'd love to take that itinerary.

Penny, I read someplace that Princess felt they no longer needed one ship dedicated exclusively to Tahiti and the South Pacific. They plan to use Ocean Princess on many itineraries and so the new name was appropriate.

Looking at the Cruise Atlas for next year I see they have 7 Tahiti and Polynesia sailings; but they have cut the Hawaii and Tahiti sailings down to one. Pacific Princess is taking Tahitian Princess' place.

They had some great itineraries, especially the Hawaii/Tahiti one. Oh well, guess it didn't sell enough. Air fare is a killer. They had one I really, really, really wanted to book. 16 day Tahiti to Australia, $899/pp for a balcony. Air fare was $3200/pp. Needless to say, I couldn't book the trip. The Tahitian Princess just sounded so exotic to me, the Ocean Princess just sounds sort of, well, dull http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...icon_smile.gif

Penny, I'd love to go to Tahiti one day too.
