Windy weather

Hi all,

although we have done six cruises this year (and seven in all - yes, we LIKE it), this last two night short break (Oriana - 30th sept-1st Oct)included some stormy weather. The weather report stated a force 6 but it did seem stronger. When the pilot was being boarded at the Solent I swear the ship had a 10 degree list to leeward and had been pushed about half a mile in the short time it took). Anyway, I was wondering what kind of windspeed these ships can comfortably tolerate. I have had a look on the net but can't find too much.... Any comments?

Nope, not just you!

I didn't finish half a sentence and I was yawning. Highly inappropriate site ("Not in a BAD way") for us newbies. Well, actually, for anyone without a PhD!

What newbies want is our hand held. Tell us there has NEVER, ever been a problem with 10 ft swells. Tell us that we are ....ooops....can't say "unsinkable", that's been done already without very good results. Oh, well, just tell us that everything is going to be alright and that 10-20 ft swells are a PIECE OF CAKE. Give us a Dramamine and we'll pad back to bed in our Bunny Pajamas.

Ok, sorry, just trying to answer the question about wind testing. Only been cruising for about 30 years and have never heard of a cruise ship capsizing from wind or waves, in fact having heard of one capsizing period. The worst seas I've been in were 15-20' and it wasn't bad at all. We were moving and you could tell who was sober (they were the ones having trouble walking), I was not among them. The site is a report from a wind tunnel test, it actually doesn't take a Phd, because all I have is an Associates'. However, I've taken all math and physics courses offered, except for quantum. But, I saw the pictures, and those I can understand. Once again, I apologize.
