I folded my thick, fluffy sweaters and placed them in the space bag, rolled the space bag up (like a taquito), then flattened it back out. If my sweaters were wrinkled, I didn't notice it. They are also good for sweatshirts, and stuff that dewrinkles easily from the steam of a hot shower. Lil' Lori
Good list, Todd. Most folks don't remember the rain pants, but we bought some for our Alaska cruise and were very glad to have them. Not only can it be damp or rainy on deck, it's windy, and they make wonderful windbreakers for your legs as well. I always recommend dressing in layers for Alaska, as you'll be hot when you go back inside with all your outdoor clothes on!
Good list if you are going to be doing a lot of outdoor hiking type activites but not for most excursions. We've taken 3 trips to Alaska from May to Sept.,for a total of 6 weeks, and haven't found the need for any of the things on your list except:
- Ear Band or Muffs
- Gloves
- Jeans (regular)
- Sweater or Sweatshirt
- Umbrella
to which I add a heavy warm jacket
and for DH a waterproof jacket and a hat

Thank you all for the good advice! Since we live in Illinois, I have plenty of cold weather gear in the closet. Instead of putting it away this spring, I'll put it in a suitcase!
LanieB--have you gotten your cruise documents yet? I called Princess today since the cruise is only 64 days away and they said they hadn't been finalized yet for our cruise. Just wondering if you have received yours since you are leaving a week earlier.
Nadine, nothing yet. When I read where f-mattox got his on day 67, I figured we'd have them by now. We did get our flight info, but not the other stuff. I've been thinking about calling them, but since you called already, I'll wait a few days.
I like the idea of the rainpants. Haven't thought of that. Another reason to go do some more shopping!!!
Nadine M amd LanieB, I have a question;
I'm looking at your cruise tickers and you are both going to Alaska on Island Princess but one says May 14 (LanieB) and one says May 16 (Nadine M). At first I thought one of you was taking the costal cruise from L.A. but that sails on May 11.
Is it just a typo or am I missing something else?
We are taking a cruise/land tour to Alaska on May 28th on Island Princess. This will be our first cruise. We are very excited about the trip. Like everyone else, I am wondering how to pack for 2 weeks. I did purchase "space" bags and plan to use those. Hopefully, the clothes will not be too wrinkled when I unpack.
We have not received any tickets, etc. from Princess as of yet. I am still awaiting the arrival of my passport (8 weeks today since I applied). This is the part that makes me nervous. I would like to have all documents in hand soon.
Any cruise veterans of Island Princess / Alaska? Would love to hear from you. All recommendations and info would be appreciated.
Thanks!
If you have any questions that is the easiest way for us to share information and recommendations. Just ask away. We have cruised on the Island Princess and going again on the 27th. Have also been to Alaska three times and going again in May. I'd be happy to try and answer your questions as will the others that post here.
The Island Princess is our favorite ship. Alaska is one of the most varied and naturally wonderful places that we have been to. Get out of the port cities and see the "real" Alaska when ever you have the opportunity. The port towns are small and don't offer much besides "tourist" shops. We were in Skagway on a day when there were no cruise ships and 3/4 of the town was shut down! It, like some of the others, rely on the toursits who spend their dollars at the shops.
