We are a large group booked on the Emerald for 10 nights March 25. All the men in our group want to know, does the casino have Texas Holdem? They all feel this is important to know ahead of time as if it would make any difference Yeah Right!! All of us ladies would like to know if it would be worth it for us to pay for "The Santuary"? Last year we went on the Sun Princess 10 nights and absolutely loved her,and had not even one complaint,especially for her being an older ship, so we decided to stick with Princess again next year, and try their new ship.I know shes not here in the States yet, but any advice is appreciated. Thank you, Kimberly

Hi Kimberly!!! Congrats on your booking. I'm probably going to book a trip on her tomorrow to the Grand Mediterranean in '08 and i'm so excited. I just cancelled another trip that I was making payments on through another travel group and found out i'll be getting $700 back so i'll use that money for the cruise. Woohoo! :: doing happy dance ::

Hello moonbliss7;

I'm not sure about Emerald Princess, but the last two Princess ships I have been on, Sapphire and Island both had Texas hold 'em; it is so popular now I can't imagine them missing a chance to capitalize on that popularity.

As for The Sanctuary, I haven't benn on a ship yet that has that new (re)venue. You would have to see for yourself if you think a half-day of peace and quiet is worth $15. They claim it is so popular, they had to add the charge to cut down demand;
could that be why they charge $1.50 for soft-serv ice cream as well? To cut down demand?

I'm sorry. I am a little tired of being nickel-and-dimed by my favorite cruise line. Well, maybe The Sanctuary it worth it--it sounds like more than just a quiet place. I'd like to hear from someone who has experienced it.

Anyway, should be fun going with a large group. We had several groups and large families on our last trip and they were having a ball.

Have a great cruise!

Rick

My husband (30 yrs old) played on the Texas Holdem tournament in the Diamond and Golden. Yeah, i don't think that they won't have it on the Emerald.
When i was on the Coral, I remember that my friend and I bought the 'spa pass' for the duration for the cruise (over 100 dollars) to use the sauna, the heated beds, etc. I hated paying extra but since we did pay, we used it extensively and was worth it. Otherwise, the use of the spa facilities was limited for those booked with spa appointments such a massage. We thought it would be nice to use the adult spa pool to get away from the kids. Little did we know we were the youngest on that cruise! We were both 30 yrs old, we were told the average passenger age on the 21d Panama cruise was in the 70's! Imagine that!

Hope that helps!

Just off the 5/5 cruise and the sanctuary was $10. No one used it much because there were virtually no kids on board.

We just got off the Emerald Princess - Rome - Venice - no one I know that tried the Santurary found it worth while, not worth the extra, the pool was so small and people just hung around it all day not getting out, yuk!! The spa was very nice, but soooo expensive....might be nice to treat yourself to one service.

Sounds like the Sanctuary is working out about the way I expected--once the novelty wore off there really wasn't much need or demand for it.
