Midship first, aft second, bow last. No preference for sides, although a lot of people seem to prefer the inland side on the Alaska Inside Passage. (I've found the scenery to be in all directions there, though.)
What prompts your question, Cyndi?
My husband just surprised me and told me he wanted to take me on a cruise for our 15th anniversary in March to renew our vows. Because its so late there aren't as many options available although its not bad. We've always prefered Midship too but there are hardly any available in the mini-suites so I just wondered what everyone else liked or if it was just me. Every ship we've cruised on its always been Portside but I wondered if there was better side?? Thanks for answering!

Hi swimmersonboard;
neither my wife or I are the least bit prone to motion sickness so we like to be as far foreword as we can get because there is less foot traffic past our door in the hallway and less chance of tobacco smoke wafting into our balcony or cabin. You didn't mention which ship, but on Coral Princess and Island Princess we like the mini-suites on Baja deck foreword because there are no balconies above us, only the bridge, and those guys are usually pretty quiet. On the Grand Class ships Dolphin Deck foreword is our choice.
Need to point out, though, that in rough seas the foreword cabins can be a problem for those with sensitive tummies.
As far as port or starboard, it makes virtually no diffeence except in a few specific instances, pointed out by ChucksOK and myself in other threads. Or if you prefer morning sun or afternoon sun on your balcony.
By the way, congratulations on your 15th and your decision to renew your vows; what a great way to do it!
Where are the other posts I would like to read them about spefic instances. We have never stayed starboard but there have been times when we pulled into port I wish we had so I could check out the port as we came in. I like sun ANYTIME of the day!

As f-mattox said, port or starboard makes virtually no difference. You can dock in one direction in one port, and in the opposite in another. If you have some choice in cabins, I'd recommend going for one closer to the stern than to the bow.
You can do searches on this site for posts about seasickness, port, starboard and other topics you're interested in. Go to the "Find" item along the top left of the message list; clicking on it will produce a drop-down where you can enter a keyword.
Thank you, Karen;
I wasn't familiar with that feature either.
swimmersonboard, the thread I was referring to starts on December 22, '06 on the Alaska Port Chat forum.
But again, except for a very few specific instances, it makes no difference; either side is going to be the right (correct) side for some ports and the wrong side for others.

Our cabin is on the Plaza deck near the front of the boat...is that a bad spot.
There were only two 3 person rooms left in Oceanview cabins when we booked...she didn't ask where we wanted to go, she just picked out a number and a cabin for us (she being our travel agent)
Hopefully he will be fine. We are in a mini suite room 616
