You don't give any details about which ship or itinerary; but my guess is the lower price was a special promotion with a cutoff date. After the cutoff, the fare went up.

I have a brochure right in front of me for, among other itineraries, a 15 day Canada and Colonial America cruise on Crown Princess on October 23, 2009. The promotional fares until April 17, 2009 are:

Inside: $1599; Oceanview: $1699; Balcony: $2499.
After April 17 the "Escape" fares are:

Inside: $2395; Oceanview: $2695; Balcony: $3195.

As you can see, an overnight jump of $700 is not unheard of.

There have been occassions when cruise fares have changed more than once in a single day!

What it all means-If you see a great deal on a cruisefare- move as quickly as you can to put up your deposit, else you might loose that benefit! I think it has happened to all of us cruiselovers at one time or another!

This is the main reason that we use a travel agent. We've been very lucky with ours and have worked with her exclusively for 7 years. I just call her up with several itinerary's and she knows EXACTLY what we want and watches everything very closely. I get a phone call and we book on her say-so immediately. A good travel agent not only travels but has lived/worked around the world. Ours was an ice-capades dancer for 11 years so she's lived or worked in every country of the world! Plus she books flights perfectly with minimum layovers at the best prices. She's a gem!
