Formal Night

I have a teenage son. Are the dress standards the sime for kids on formal night?

I have noticed that teenagers do wear jackets on formal nights.. I have also seen toddlers wear tuxes..(so cute) Men may not be allowed to enter the main dining room with out a jacket on formal night.. Is formal night optional? Some cruise lines are..

Formal night has gotten to be NOT so formal...
A shirt and tie will get you into the main restaurant on formal night...Neat and clean is what has become the guideline on my last 10 or so cruises....NO SHORTS....I always wear a sports coat and tie, but on my last cruise there were less and less people dressed up...It's becoming more of a personal choice...
Dress up and have fun....Happy cruising...

The dress code applies to all age groups in the dining rooms. You always have the option to go to the buffet, if you prefer not to dress for dinner. I have traveled the last 6 winters on RCCL with a daughter who is now 20, and another that is now 14. (just so you know some in our party have a special radar for teen-aged boys). Mostly I see dress pants, good shirts (tucked in) and a few ties. Very few jackets on this age group. Have fun, and I will second the notion that you have the final say on dress code if you want a family picture taken. We do every year and treasure them.

I noticed our last cuise in 2007 vs our first cruise 2000 that formal is not so formal anymore. Men mostly coat and tie (only a few tuxes) and ladies instead of floor length dresses...more cocktail dresses or nice pants suits.

We have noticed on our cruises of how many young folks....teenage to mid 20s, go all out dressing up on formal night. It's a great sight and they seem to have so much fun with it......kind of like another prom night.

Thanks for the great info. We set sail Monday. Our son will stand out whatever he wears. He is 6'3", with snow white hair. Thanks again for the input.
