RCI Cancelled one of my ports!!!

Can they do this? I am scheduled on the EOS in April and I found out when I called to confirm my room today. They cancelled our stop in the Bahamas and informed me that they are NOT replacing it with another island. Is this their normal practice? I dont think it is fair that after you pay they can change the amount of islands you visit.

They told me that the island did not have room for the boat. I asked them didnt they know this when they made the itinerary. RCI's response was that the island has the final say based on availability. But I still dont understand why they replace it with another island.

I have been on quite a few cruises where ports were cancelled. While I wouldn't call this "normal practice" it does happen from time to time. Sometimes replacement ports are being offered, sometimes not.

The cruise line (not only Royal Caribbean, but any cruise line) has the right to do so according to the passage contract.

Unfortunately, there's little one can do.

Thank you for the feedback.. I guess it is initial shock. I know I will still have a great time!! However it is disappointing that they do not replace it with another island. I really appreciate the feedback from this website, it has been very helpful.

nnnn, it is often out of the cruise line's control. The Bahamas are close to Florida. It's possible that the ship just doesn't have time to go to another island that's further away. I was on a ship in November that was supposed to go to Key West and Cozumel, but Cozumel was not open yet because of hurricane damage. The decision was made to go to Grand Cayman instead, but that meant we couldn't go to Key West because they needed the extra day to travel to Grand Cayman. People who were counting on Key West and Cozumel were disappointed.

There are a lot of factors that go into whether or not a ship can stop at specific ports, including weather, tides, distance, and availability of alternate ports. That's why your cruise line ticket always says the cruise line has the option of changing or eliminating ports as necessary. The fact that the Bahamas determined there was no room for the Enchantment on your week is something out of Royal Caribbean's control. It would appear that substituting another port was not feasible to the ship's schedule.

At least you are hearing about it ahead of time. Twice while onboard we had ports cancelled. And at the time it was nice to just keep back and do nothing versus running and getting a quick breakfast to get onshore. And then finding your tour guide.

I did miss going and doing a dune buggy ride at Costa Maya but when they said that do to waves and an accident a few weeks early I had no problem

Snorkel is right at least you found out before you left. We were due to to visit Key West last year and found out 48 hours before we were due to dock that we'd be having an extra day at sea, after spending 6 days crossing the Atlantic. To be honest it was a bonus for us as we love seas days.

My cruise in April on ROS also had to stay out at sea an extra day because too many ships in Aruba on our scheduled day, but we're still in a day later. I've heard of other ships changing intinery at the same time. I was wondering if maybe the upset in Venezeula has anything to do with it. Maybe some ships have to do alternative ports since they may not want to venture into those areas? At least we know ahead of time about the change. Still looking forward to a great time!

I know that come November if we lose a port we have many days to chose another one. But again I have never been to Aruba or Curacao. So missing either one would be a bummer but it is something that we have no control over.

Seeing that it will be a 9 night out of New Jersey ending in Miami there is not much room for change.

But again better to know ahead of time.

Either way our hands are pretty much tied.
