... or same old web deception?

The leading big three travel mega-web sites (Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity) provide great info & reference on world travel especially the updated prices. The ever-adjusting prices surely are very tempting to click & book. Currently, there is misleading BIG advertised sale by Travelocity "Book this departure date now and save $200 off regular rates!" specifically CCL's Elation Mex Riviera (5/18/03-7day sailing) at $449. First impression for the naivete' would be ..WOW $249!. Of course, not so after reading the fine-print restrictions. After talking with 3 Travelocity agents, the so-called $200 per-cabin-sale is factored in already. What sale? There is no sale! ..as Orbitz & Expedia state the same base price, without the misleading & misrepresenting SALE sensationalism. Yes people, DO really investigate in-depth the many web too-good-to-be-true, sucker baits nowadays. So what's up Travelocity??

I just checked with Carnival's site and $449 is the going rate for May 18th on the Elation that any travel agent in the United States would confirm right now. For the most part, so many of these claims of "huge discounts" are nothing but smoke and mirrors....much as you have indicated.

My advice, find a cruise professional and stay with them.

Okay, I'm going to give free advertising to an online travel website: Cheap Tickets.com. No smoke in mirrors. The very best rates and they offer huge discounts if you book online. My last cruise, I got $200.00 off (for two people) by booking it directly online. I met a couple on the same cruise who used the same website. No problems whatsoever and no one, and I mean no one, could beat their prices. I looked everywhere including local and non-local travel agencies. Check it out.

We just returned from a cruise aboard the Enchantment of the Seas on April 27. We searched all the travel sites to find the best price. When we found the lowest (which was CVC), we called a travel agent to get a price (it was much higher). Our travel agent matched the price. We got the local service and assistance with online prices.

I guess it pays to ask! When I initially shopped around for pricing on a 7 day cruise for a family of 5 I was told $3700.00 (for everyone, including taxes, fees & ins) for 1 ocean view cabin and 1 inside cabin across the hall. After it was all said and done, I got the price down to $2000, both oceanview rooms and they were side by side cabins. If I took the first deal I wouldn't have even been able to afford any excursions at that price. Shop around and take the extra time, and most importantly negotiate, it will be worth it.

Is anyone else aware just how Celebrity's prices vary for the same cabin booked at the same time on the same sailing but booked from different countries?

If you go into to Celebrity's website (www.celebritycruises.com) and tell it you are from **** or Iraq it will quote you a price thousands of dollars less than if you are from the US. Obviously celebrity rightly vary prices according to demand, but why should people in many parts of the world be able to buy the same product cheaper than Americans?? For the same category 3 cabin on the same cruise on Millennium prices varied from $6,500 (North Korea) to $14,500 (England)

My tip is to book not book with celebrity until they sort their act out - or if you are in Europe book through their French agent Latitude Sud - its thousands of dollars cheaper and European Union law says they have to make the same offers available to all EU citizens.
