Has anyone taken both the Transition cruise and those in Europe? I really would like to see Europe and the prices on the Transition are very good, but time in Europe is limited. The biggest point has to be the airfare to Europe. In both cases it is better part of a $1000 or more. Is it any cheaper to book the flight through RCCL?
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks,
-Doug
If you're going on a cruise that starts and ends in the same port, it's not a bad idea to look at booking air on your own. This way, you can select the flights, airlines, and times you want, pending availability, and you may save a bit of $, too. If your cruise starts and ends in different ports, I still suggest looking at both options, although the cruise line's air may more reasonable in this case.
Which cruises are you considering? And, from where are you flying?
The cruise lines don't usually refer to them by that name; it's more of a "nickname" cruisers have attached to them, along with "repositioning cruise".
They are how the lines fill ships when they move them from one market to another, like Europe to the Caribbean, the Caribbean to Alaska, West Coast to East Coast, etc.
They usually have more sea days than port days and are less expensive than the normal per diem for that particular ship.
Go to any cruise lines web site or send for a catalogue; then pick any ship you are interested in; then look at its cruise schedule:
If the cruise starts and ends in the same port,
it's not a repositioning cruise.
If the cruise starts in one port, ends in another port, then
goes from that port back to the first port,
it's not a repositioning cruise.
If the cruise starts in one port and ends in another port in a
different part of the world,
it's probably a repositioning cruise.
