Additional Costs

My family and I (12 total) are going on the Explorer of the Seas in April 2003. It's my first cruise. I haven't gotten a handle yet on the additional costs ... I know alcoholic beverages, spa services, and onshore excursions are extra, but what's this about soda cards? and tickets to the shows? and what about ice skates? anything else? I want to be prepared. THANKS!

they have inline skates and ice skates available, I don't think there is a charge for those. Certainly no charge to use the facilities. All entertainment on board is free. Rock wall is free, etc... At Johnny Rockets, you will pay for shakes and drinks. The specialty restaurant (Portofinos) has a $20 charge... Some people swear by the soda cards. That they are a good value if you drink a lot of soda. There are mixed reports on the alcohol cards as they can't be used for "premium" booze or special drinks, and they come in a smaller glass.

As someone pointed out in another post I read recently...the downside of the great cruise prices is that they have to make up for it in other ways..the upside is the great cruise prices! But you are getting an awful lot for your money, IMHO.
