ok just returned from freedom on my first cruise. i started a thread about bringing beer on and now i will tell what happened. lets start out with boarding. freedoms policy is boarding begins at 200 and not to arrive befor 100. checked out of miami hotel around 1130 and went to freedom. checked right through all security and boarding gates effortlessly and went dirtectly to windjammer buffet. had an awesome buffet and was laying by the pool at 1255 which is 5 minutes befor we are supposed to arrive. the people on board do not have any rules and their only concern is for you to have a great vacation. if you want to come on now lets get this vacation started. ok i ordered 2 cases of beer from a company called just because of you to be delivered to my room. at about 500 i got 2 wrapped presents of the beer. ok now lets see if they really take it from me as i was told by cust service. i started slow walking through the halls. every employee welcomed me and said do nothing here but enjoy your vacation. ok now i go to the pool where they actually serve drinks and have bars. first server with a tray of drinks sees me with my can of bud and says enjoy your cruise. i now think i am ok as they serve bud and they think i bought it from them. i finish and decide to buy a can of bud to make sure i am ok. they do not have cans but red bottles mad of alluminum. ok it is $4.86 for the beer. i now go back to my room and get another can and sit at the bar with my own. nowbody cares. lets try the casino as now i am getting confident. i set my beer on the table and guess what the dealer says . welcome aboard and enjoy your vacation. dinner time. get dressed up. bring my can of bud to dinner , waitress sees this and says i will be right back. this is it i am done. returns with 2 glasses one filled with ice. here is a chilled glass for your beer sir. i will have this for you every night when you arrive. get the point. the people on the ship care about one thing and one thing only and that is that you have a great time. nobody cares and there are no rules. i will answer any questions about the freedom for as long as you ask . just keep in mind the people on the reservation lines , travel agents, customer service and anyone else who is not on board knows nothing of what goes on. it is really a different and wonderful world of complete pampering your every need and more. thanks joe

Hey Joe! I got a KICK out of your post. I needed a laugh on this dreary Monday morning. Thank you! Tx for the info, I don't think I'm brave enough to temp this myself, but it's good to know that it worked in case my friends are interested in ordering some alcohol and having it brought on. Thanks again Joe!

Hello JJomaski,

so you mentioned the beer cost around $4.86, does this price includes gratuity?

Is $4.86 for domestic beer? How much would import beer such as corona or hieneken beer cost?

Do you know the cost of scotch/whiskey?

Thanks

hey avenger , dont need to be brave . the only people you are dealing with are those that work on the ship. no risk.
sonu, the 4.86 includes a 15% gratuity, when you sign there is a line for an additional tip. i added $1 about half the time, it is optional.i do not know if imports are more but if you made me guess i would say all beer is the same price.the only other drink i had was an occasional bloody mary or the special of the day which would read $6.84
hey jim. the company is called just because of you and the number is 800-882-9707 and her name is shelly. when i first talked to her i was so adament that they would take it away from me she didnt want to do business with me. i finally calmed down and decided to try. i feel like calling her and apoligizing . she told me exactly the way it is. on the ship it is a different world and they will do anything to make you enjoy yourself. i had the room attendent inform me on the first day that they clean the room 2x a day and i was not to do anything for myself that he could do for me. the employees are the happiest most sincere people i have ever met and they truly want you to have the time of your life. and we did.

Has anybody ever just packed their hooch in their luggage and checked their luggage? A buddy of mine says he packed 8 bottles of wine in his luggage (2 in each bag), and carried on another 7 bottles in carry on which he declared to the inspection people. The wine was taken to the Purser, and a bottle was delivered to the dinner table each night (corkage fee was charged).

I called Shelly awhile back because I was a bit skeptical. After talking to her I was assured it was allowed by the cruise companies. I don't think you and order hard booze. If you're a beer drinker, or have a special wine you prefer, this service is perfect. It was good to hear it really works.

The time you can board the ship depends on when the ship is cleared. We didn't get on the Freedom until after 1:00.

Two years ago on Mariner a party traveling with us carried a large cooler on board. Beer was on the bottom and juise boxes were on top. At embarkation someone said "just juice right?" He replyed right and walked on the boat with a cooler full of Beer!

Another cruise someone purchesed a 6 pack at every port put it right through the scanner then took it to his room. Hard liquor was taken to storage and returned at port.

Don't think I would risk putting it in my luggage. If it didn't make it through and I was called down it would be pretty emabarrassing to say the least and I have ahard time putting it in listerine or shampoo bottles so.....I made the call and ordered some rum and some beer, my girlfriend ordered a bottle of Bailey's. Since I will hopefully have a nice room with what looks to be a bar area? thought I might as well fill er up and enjoy. And trust me, I will still have a nice bar tab at the end as I will be drinking those nice fancy drinks by the pool during the day and enjoying my Martini's before dinner and lovin every minute of it. I will give feed back when I come back and tell you if the rum & Baileys made it on board.
Happy cruising to all those travelling while we are experiencing a terrible storm.
Leigh

It makes me laugh to think what a cruise would be like if the policy was openly stated that people could "bring any amount of booze or beer aboard when boarding, or from any port.

The rules are basically guidelines that are there in writing should enforcement become necessary. If people act like responsible adults, they will be treated that way. Somewhat like speeding...most don;t get stopped going 5-10 over the limit..its the one that push it that get pulled over!
