Hi Susanlovestocruise, thanks for your input and I'm glad you were able to save that much money.

I still have a question. You didn't say. Did you check out just the cruise price,or the cruise price plus taxes and port charges? This is what I need to know.

KJai, Lil'Lori, SONNY, none of you mentioned if this refund was just from the price of the cruise total, or the cruise price /plus taxes, plus port charges total?

Hi bryneyes,
I did a fake booking on RCI website as if I was booking a new cruise for the date we were going on. Right before you have to put in your personal information. I wrote down the amount total that it came up with and compared it to the total price of cruise, with taxes, charges etc. that we already paid in full. At this point, I saw that it was a huge difference. I then called RCI themselves and acted like I wanted a price quote for the cruise to just double check what I found online. It was the exact same amount as online. That is when I called my TA and told her about the difference and she called RCI to get my discount. I hope this helps you.

brneyes, since the taxes and port charges are not pegged to the price of the cruise, any reduction and refund would be on the fare only, not the taxes and fees.

This probably belongs in the Princess forum, but since we're on rate drops, I just received a brochure from Princess with some serious reductions on their original European (2007) prices. Looks like they overestimated demand. Anyone already booked on Princess or thinking of booking this summer should check it out.

Thanks everyone for your responses.
Kevin, is this the amount that the cruise dropped, if not your TA is definetly keeping something from you. Also, did you get the refund as an onboard credit or directly back to your credit card?

If I see a price drop I try to check my clients bookings, but I tell them always if they see the price come down to please call me and I will get it reduced for them, especially on Royal Caribbean..even after final payments. I even have some clients who will call me on a monthly basis just for me to check the price to see if it reduced. I always make sure they get it. So if the price reduced more than $100.00 total then your TA is not being honest with you.

Hi Susan, thanks for getting back with me. Now I know what to do.

How soon before your cruise did you check this out? I still have about 2 months and almost 1 week. Should I check at different times, or wait about a month just before, and do what you did?

My TA did say (I have everything in email in front of me) she would reinburse us,or something like that if the rate should go lower, but I'm sure she wouldn't check it out, just to be checking it out. Wouldn't she be loosing money on this? I'm trying to keep everyone happy, but it would be nice if we could save some money.

Oh, I don't know if you know anything about this or not, but we took out insurance. Should our rate go lower, would they adjust the insurance (we've already paid for everything)price, or just leave it as is? I really don't care, as long as I could save on the cruise price, although I'm sure my TA won't be too happy about that.

I know you directed this question at Susan, but as far as the insurance price, did you purchase it through Royal Caribbean, or through your TA? The insurance price is based on your total package. Did you cover your airfare also?. If the refund she got for you is less then the price drop then I would notify her immediately and let her know that you know the that Royal ALWAYS gives the refunds back, even after final payment..Some cruiselines wont..Carnival for instance, they are harder to get it out of them. If she fails to get the full reduction for you..then I would let her know that you cruise a good bit and you will be searching for a new TA for any future bookings. That should get her moving.

Good Luck.

Hi, don't forget to check your airfares for price drops also. Twice I have had my airfares drop, once by $200/person, and $130/person. I just pretend I am making a new booking, to get the updated price. Both times I called the airline and got a voucher issued to me. Kind of a hassle, but well worth it I think. Just a thought.
