Tipping when not eating in dining room

We have been on the Radiance to Hawaii in may. For the first time, they had a tipping box and envelopes at the end of the cruise at the entrance of the Windjammer.
I´ve often asked for that and it´s good, that they ´ve done it now. I hope they will do it on other ships too. We normally eat in the Dining Room, had only one dinner in the Windjammer, because we came back to the ship from a port very late. Dinner was good, but we prefer the athmosphere in the dining room.
Breakfast and lunch in the Windjammer is okay and we try to sit in the same section every time, when we are satisfied with the waiter. And we tip them here and now.

I havent been on royal carribean in a year. But from what i understand, they still give tipping envelopes at the end of the cruise? On carnival they include the tipping in ur bill at the beginning of your cruise. I think i like royal carribeans way better. carnivals tipping is 100 sumthing in advance. ooooooooo and what about tipping the matradee(sp?) you know the guy who comes around at dinner and introduces himself...... to me he doesnt do anything, i dont feel he should be tipped.

Carnival's grautuities are on par with the other cruise lines. They are $10 per day per person. 3-day cruise $30, 5day cruise $50, 7-day cruise $70, etc. While to some it may not seem like the Maitra'd does much, but he does oversee the wait staff and keep things running smoothly. In other words he makes sure your waiter and asst waiter are doing their job properly. He often assist and fills in when a waiter needs it, or when they are short handed.
