I guess I've been on more western runs than any other cruise itinerary. I wouldn't say Jamaica is "dangerous", just annoying depending on the port you stop at, and your level of endurance for pestering. Ocho Rios is better than Montego Bay in my opinion.
Thanks Dave, over all would you recommend Western Caribbean on Liberty?
Absolutely! Beyond the ports, the Liberty Of The Seas is a wonderful ship. We cruised on the Liberty last summer and it ranks as one of our best cruises ever - certainly in the top 5. We did the eastern run - not my favorite itinerary but it fit our schedule.
Oh thats great Dave, my friends got married last year and went on liberty on their honeymoon had a ball! now want to do western on liberty this year for their first anniversary so we're debating it! would the weather in october be good? sorry for all silly questions just girly stuff we have to know!!
The majority of our cruises have been to the western caribbean. We love Jamaica, just have resigned ourselves to always doing some sort of tour to get a layer of protection from aggressive natives and potential crime. Also want to get back to the ship on time, this is not a place to get stranded. Grand Cayman is wonderful, ditto Labadee, and Cozumel is one of the safest ports in all of the Caribbean. As much as I love the other route, for use west is best. Good luck!

We sailed on Liberty last October on the western leg and had a wonderful cruise. We chose to stay onboard in Montego Bay but those that went ashore all had a great time.
