Quality of food on Mariner of the Seas

Repeatedly I have read reviews in which past cruisers say that quality of the Dining Room food left something to be desired but that the speciality resturants were great. (Portafino's, Chops). My question is this: Is this difference deliberate to increase revenue for RCL? If that is the case that is pretty sneaky on RCL's part. BTW: We went on a cruise last year where we loved the dining room food and our servers sooooo much, we never wanted to go to the speciality resturant (David's).

I think the food in the main dining rooms is great. I've been to the special restaurant's and find them to be like eating in a 5 star restaurant. Even so, I very rarely eat in the specialty restaurant's because I enjoy the dining room. I'll be on the Mariner is a couple of weeks and I'll let you know if the food is as good as usual.

I would not make that statement. I was on the Mariner OTS in June and the main dinning room food and service was top notch. Is the food AS good as in the specialty restaurants? No. But if it was who would pay extra?

I do recall making the statement that RCCL's main dinning room food is about par with CCL's food, but that just means that CCL has improved in that department over the past 5 years or so. (I'm not sure that would be true of CCL's food in the past)

I'd like to insert one more statement. I think I've been on at least six cruises with RCCL this past year, and I have noticed the food is getting even better. Is it just my wife and I, or has anyone else noticed the improvement?

I concur. The food in the Liberty Of The Seas this past June was the best we've ever had on RCI. I do feel it was a notch above what we had on the Freedom last year and probably two notches above the Mariner the year before that.

I kind of figured the speciality resturants were available primarily because there were people who wanted to dine without having to deal with kinetic children in the dining room. And as a way to isolate the more quiet seeking passengers from "the masses". I did not expect the quality of the food to be inferior. Well, I will go with an open mind in March.
