I've read a lot of discussions about tipping on these boards, so I know to tip my waiter, head-waiter, etc. for the whole week even if I don't eat in the main dining room every night. However, I've not read anything about whether I also need to tip at the place I do eat, say for example the Windjammer. What's the consensus?

No tipping in the Windjammer for breakfast of lunch. If you eat more than one dinner in the Windjammer instead of the dining room, tipping would be appropriate. Tipping in the speciality restaurants, like Chops and Portofino's, is covered in the $20 per person charge. I still tip because it's so much appreciated. When in doubt, tip.

We have tipped in the Windjammer at times because we received outstanding service from the staff, especially on Enchantment of the Seas. We have not tipped at other times because we did not receive ANY service to speak of. Do what you feel is right.

So do you take cash with you to tip when you go to eat at the Windjammer or how does that work since you tip everyone else at the end of the cruise in the envelopes?

American dollars. Two or three bucks is fine. If you don't get personal service, don't bother. Same goes if you have room service.

We used cash in the Windjammer. Let me say again that on Enchantment they seated us, asked what we wanted to drink, checked on us several times while we ate and were as good as in the dining room. Outstanding!! When we went on Voyager it was totally opposite as we were never approched for anything in the Windjammer. Very disappointing....but that was about the ONLY thing about Voyager that we were disappointed in.

Service in the Windjammer on board the Enchantment does seem to be exceptional and I too, have found myself tipping the personnel there. It did seem they were more attentive than the main dining room. Equally good service was had in the Chops Grille, but then there was the additional cover charge.

Okay. Thanks. I just always thought one of the benefits of taking a cruise was that you didn't have to carry cash around with you while you're on the ship. I guess that's not true.

The only cash you NEED on board is for tipping if you use room service and for the casino if you use it. Anything else goes on your shipboard account... if you buy a pack of gum onboard, it goes on your account.
