We just got back from the explorer on the 27th. I thought the drinks were high. They range anywhere from $4.00 to $6.00. The tip is included in the slip you sign. We brought our own bacardi and got some pop at the last island. I would try to have the drink of the day that was listed in the daily compass. It was always cheaper than the drink they were pushing to sell for the day. We had no problem bringing alcohol on. We bought alot of alcohol to take home. Some, they held for us and the others we walked right on. There alcohol is dirt cheap. Any more questions, let me know. I've got my bill right in front of me.
Thanks for responding. I am planning to take liquor with me in Coke and Sprite bottles. How did you take it onboard? Did you put it in a carry-on or pack in your suitcase? Also, did they look inside your luggage?
I would like to know how much your final tab was after a week if you do not mind. I am planning on taking a $1000.00 for spending as we only plan on one shore excursion.
The only spending money i really bring for the ship is the tips for everyone(waiter, cabin attendant, etc). The rest is for patrolling the ports, and thats a whole different ballgame. I wouldnt put the booze into pop bottles, they might leak, etc...thats just me. In San Juan, i walked right on the ship with some bottles of Don Q. I was intending to just bring them home, but when they didnt take them, i went back ashore, bought two more, and drank the others on the ship. My bar bill was quite a bunch, but that just went to Visa, again, no spending money. Another thing is that you can get money at the casino, billed to your stateroom if you run out(at least you could last May)
We went on the Celebrity Galaxy, a southern cruise about 4 years ago. It being our 1st, it was out of this world. We had a very large tab at the end of the week. This was our 2nd cruise and we all enjoyed it. Our charge was $688.00 to our room and the kids charged about $150.00 I think. This trip, I made sure we had late dinner because we got hooked on the casino the 1st trip. I felt it would be less time gambling which it was. I was glad I made this choice. On the ships, they are always selling things. One night, they have a watch sale, and they have very good brands. In their licqor store on the ship, we bought 2 bottles of Captain Morgan Private Stock for 2/$31.95! At home, we checked and they wanted $22.00 a bottle. Going on the trip, I bought Captain Morgan in plastic bottles and packed them to be checked in with the luggage. We never had a problem bringing licqor on the ship from the ports. At some of the ports, they brought it on for you and it was delivered to your room the last day. We bought alot of licqor to take home. My advice is when you are on your cruise, find the guy who has all the shopping advice. They are the pros. Whatever you want to buy, he will tell you where to go to buy what you want on the islands. We didn't do this on the 1st cruise. Big mistake! The last day, we found RC had given every room a very nice travel bag. That held alot of licqor to go. We never got checked at customs. Our last day on the ship, we played bingo. It cost $50.00 to get the best pkg. and the tope prize was $13,000.00. Sorry to say, we didn't win. Only in our dreams. Any more you want to know, let me know.
