Hi Lisa,
On the last day of your cruise you'll find envelopes left on your bed by your cabin steward. It will all be self explanatory. The suggested amount per person, per day, will be in writing. You can give the waiters their envelopes on the last night after the meal. We leave your cabin steward's envelope on our bed before leaving for dinner.
You can use the following guidelines:
Dining room waiter: $3.50 a day per guest
Housekeeper: $3.50 a day per guest
Assistant waiter: $2.00 a day per guest
On 3 and 4-night cruises, headwaiters are generally tipped $2.50 per guest for the cruise.
Normally, isn't tipping automatically included in the total cruise price when booking? Does that means you don't have to tip onboard, waiters and attendants?
I always prepay, but, you can always go to guest relations and alter the amount someone receives in lieu of the quality of services rendered. Also, a suite steward (not junior suite) gets 5.75 per day. Just don't lose your beach towel as that will cost you 25.00!
JuniorCruiser, I have never pre-paid; just the $10 a day pp. automatic and then additional cash as warranted. I normally tip the room service steward $3-5 depending on the order and his demeanor on arrival.
I always pre-paid until I found out the employees don't get their money for a while. They would rather see cash in their envelopes. If I have on-board credits, I go to the Guest Relations desk and ask for the credits in cash and use it for tips. The main thing is that we all tip the people that take such good care of us on our cruise vacation.
