Many years ago you would get passports stamped when entering or exiting countries. Not so today. We've had this passport for 4 years now, and have 2 stamps in it. Go to Russia and your guaranteed of a stamp, as you must carry it with you and get little cards when exiting the ship that must be handed back when you return. Otherwise, you leave your passport locked in the safe on the ship, take your sail and sign card, and your drivers license. I was very disappointed that they didn't do it like they used to as well. Hope this answers your question

I remember the days when you not only got your passports stamped, but received 'stickers' from the cruise lines to plaster all over your luggage so that everyone could see where you had been! Bobby

yes, they're expensive, yes it sucks that we live in a world where they're necessary... but we do. I do not know why anyone considering a cruise more than 30-60 days out would even consider *not* getting one. We already have border security getting tighter and tighter by the month... (I go back and forth between the US and Canada all the time)... can you imagine if we go to war? They better start making it a requirement to have a passport to get in and out, because we have learned all too well how easy it is for people to get fake or forged Drivers Licenses.. do you think it's hard to make a birth certificate look "official"? Do you want to be a week away from your cruise, and suddenly have it declared a requirement to have a passport?

We were in to see our travel agent yesterday, and she was helping a brand new customer to the agency. She was telling her that as of yesterday, a certified birth certificate was OK, but they're advising all customers of get passports right away if the cruise is at least a couple of months out. With the person that started this being from Canada, that would almost be a must, as they're not US citizens and handled differently. Youmust realize that the brochures that you're looking at have been printed up a year or more in some cases, and boy, things have sure changed in that time.
