Question for Royal Caribbean customers

We have been on several Royal Caribbean cruises. The ONLY time that I noticed children being an issue was when we went in March last year during Easter. It was slightly ridiculuous the way that the parents did not even bother to try to control their children. I believe that Royal Caribbean tried their best to get the kids to calm down but the running around was just ridiculuous , through the halls, on the pool deck, etc. My other cruises were fine!

In the summer months when we've cruised the Rhapsody, the most visible kids are the teeny bopper age group - probably about 5th - 8th grades. They travel in packs (all male or all female until true love strikes!), carry those walky talkies, and in general are trying to be too cool to live. :-) Most are well behaved while trying to know where they fit into the universe. My hubby and I kind of smile and attempt a conversation with them and at that they usually flee quickly. Both of us are former secondary educators, so we get kind of a kick out of them. Overall, we've never found kids onboard to be a nuisance, but I think we are used to them.

What I have found is that it is not the children but the parents who do not control their children that are the problem. I was on on such cruise with RC and the children were horrible as were their parents. They(the children) were stealing stuff from the cruise director after a shopping info talk, going through the casino,gambling at the coin push machines at the casino entrance and being just plain loud and unruly. RC finally had to put guards at the casino entrance. Then they threatend to put the kids and parents off at the next port. It was a large group traveling together, so I think this was a rather isolated event. On all my other cruises I have hardly notice the children. You just have to make the best of it and hope the ship corrects the situation quickly.

Spring break/Easter is a good time to avoid cruising if kids bother you. There will be a larger number of little ones. Most will behave like kids...nothing more, nothing less.
The ones that bugged us were the 18-20 year olds who just discovered alcohol and want to consume their full portion before the earth runs dry...
