Update! My agent was confused and thought I wanted to upgrade next week's cruise instead of making a new booking for next year. I was confused too, since she said RCI told her all the suites were booked yet I still saw several still open at the various online booking engines.

But she is squared away now and once again on hold with RCI.

I've called RCI 4 times today and got through in less than 30 seconds each time. It's nice having a special line! The problem is they're playing a little dirty pool with this one. They have red flagged a number of the hot itineraries and won't let me book 'em at all, at any price/promotion. If you were looking at Legend of the Seas for Nov 12th or 24th of 2008 hang it up. Yesterday the whole ship was available and today they say the sailing is closed. I'll guarantee you it'll be open again tomorrow. That's just wrong! I have two couples who had their hearts set on the back to back and I can't help them during the promo.

Cheers, Neil

Neil,

Yes, "that ain't right". How silly to play a shell game with some cruises - and look at how it is screwing your clients on a BTB! May I assume you might just be looking for availability on the Legend tomorrow?

Yep, I'll be checking and am sure it'll be available. That means to do the right thing by my clients (Since the cruiseline won't), I'll be again eating the OBC to keep long term clients happy and booking with me. I hate working for practice but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

WHOOHOOO!! I am so happy! I just got back from the travel agency and my cruise is finally booked . I booked two portside cabins on the Indepedence of the seas for March 21 2009. I know it sounds too far away but you know, it can help us save money and get to cruise on a brand new ship. It is also like an early graduation present for my son. my agent said "it looks like you've done some homework before you came here" and I was like "yep I have a lot of friends on cruise chat.com, and I had a lot of help from them" Thank you Dave and everyone else who gave me advice, i found myself a very good TA and cruise!

tanyababanya,

Great! I am happy you got some help here, and that you got the special deal and your booking done today. I'm still waiting to hear back from my agent.

I am still laughing (sadly) about an RCI agent telling you the Independence Of The Seas wasn't an RCI ship. That employee needs coaching and/or more training.

I see it all the time with cruiseline agents from all the lines. It's worst during "wave season" when there are a bunch of partially trained new hires. Glad you can laugh Dave, I have to deal with 'em every day, not humorous on this end.

I know, for a moment she got me there, she even told me that Freedom class ships are not under RCI. I asked her about Freedom and Liberty, she go like "nope, you don't get the promotion on those ships either ". I talked to my TA, he said maybe she is new. I think so too, because she kept ask me how old I was and how to spell my name like three times!

Well Neil.. you can choose to laugh or cry....I choose to laugh..

The cruise specialists are one thing I think Carnival has a better system on. I have a CS for Carnival that I know and trust and have a good working relationship with. I can call his extension and he knows who I am and what cruises we are looking to go on.

For RCCL, if you call into their CS pool, you can get a different one each time. You can ask for a given agent, but I have never been successfully transferred to that agent. Unless there is a trick to it that I am not aware of, it is not a good way of handling things. There is no incentive for a CS to work for a customer since they will most likely not talk with them again.

Didn't RCCL combine the booking staffs for both RCI and Celebrity a while back? That was probably a stupid idea. You have a mixture of people booking two different lines, and probably with a high turnover rate of employees. Could you imagine if Carnival had one booking center handling all of their brands?
