I requested the late seating for dinner. When the cruise documents arrived they had us listed as main seating. Is that the same thing?

No. Main seating is not the same as late.
Call your Travel agent to have it changed if late is what you desire.

Main seating is at 6:15. But it's not bad having dinner at this time. You'll be able to enjoy the midnight buffets more. I had 8:30 seating and could not enjoy the midnight food because I was still so full.

If you are unable to get your dining assignment changed before you go, you can request it when you board. One of the first things you should do after boarding the ship is to seek out the maitre d' and ask him to change you to late seating. Unless the ship is totally full, he will probably be able to do that. Be sure to tip him at the end of the cruise if he is able to help you out!
The previous post has a good point, though - you may want to have dinner at the main seating on your first night. If you find you like your tablemates and that your digestion works better, you just might stick with it!

my husband and I had the late seating on the Enchantment.
We have decided that we would not eat that late again. The other post was correct. You didn't have an ounce of stomach left to eat anything at the midnight buffet. As for coming back in time from your excursions, we never were back after 4:00pm.
We always had enough time to get ready for dinner and then some.

I also had late seating on the enchantment. It really is all about personal preference. If you normally eat late at home, then request late seating on the cruise, and vice versa. Ecursion's and shows should not be effected by your choice either way, the cruise line accomodates for both seatings. In other words, don't be afraid you'll miss the show because you choose late seating, since most ships have two show's a night.
