RCI has canceled the stop at Rockland, Maine. Why? New rules about ships being limited to 10 knots in Maine waters so they don't hit whales. This means we can't make all the ports because of the speed loss.

I was especially looking forward to stopping there. Oh well.

Now Dave, Quit holding your breath and stomping your feet. It doesn't work.

That's a shame. I was waiting to hear about it. It is rare for ships to stop there.

So a 10 knot hit won't kill a whale?

I guess they figure the ship will have time to react better if going slower. I think it is just a meaningless bow (ha!) to appease the whale special interest groups. Meanwhile, RCI is secretly happy since it means another at-sea day and more onboard revenue. More opportunities to sell inches of gold, and perhaps some overpriced stuffed whale toys. I'm wondering if they will push drink specials that feature cranberry juice.

My sarcastic nature reaches a zenith every time I return to my former employer (TVA) to do consultant work, which is what I am currently doing for a few weeks. I fear my wit will whither on the vine if I ever stop doing my periodic gigs at ye olde nuclear plante.
