On that we agree to disagree...I love dinners on board, always dress (matching bag and shoes, my friends will giggle)...but the amount of people they serve can never amount to fine dining. The personal service, the best servers on the ship(a big promotion for them)...and the food prepared for just you is a BIG difference, and in my humble opinion....one night of Chops for me, my mother couldn't care less.

i will try portofinos, maybe on the last night.
There is a big difference. The food in the dining room is mass prepared, the quality is not the same, as your meal at Portofino and Chops is being prepared after you order. Along with better service, it is well worth the extra $$.

Sonya,
I think everyone has convinced you, but just in case. Our experience at Portofino was phenominal. Our dinner experience (and it was more of an experience than a meal!)was simply wonderful. We went on a full day at sea during sunset. We tried all kinds of things I would never order at home (too scary to pay for something like carpacio at home and hate it). Since it is a flat fee, you can order and eat whatever you want. The quality of the food was much better than dining room, service too. The chocolate dessert sampler was delicious. Anyway, well worth the $.

Look at this page to see recent menus for Portofino's and Chops. They menus should be the same regardless of the ship. The linked page also has main dining room menus for comparison

Man oh man Dave, you posted this and someone posted another list of menus of the NCL threads, I think RonClark. In looking through these menus I'm getting really hungry and have three hours left before I get off work. May have to make some reservations at a nice restaurant and knock off early today.
