I see in the local news that Mariner OTS is going to California, and Freedom OTS will be taking up residence at Port Canaveral.
Just wondering how much, if any, the cruise port will have to be changed or made larger for the larger ship, and just how is RCCL going to get Mariner to the left coast? Will she fit through the Panama Canal, or with she have to sail East all the way around? I'm going to miss her (don't travel to the left coast much).
Any ideas about when the switch will take place, other than 2009?
I doubt they'll have to change much. The FOS is 1112' long, 126.64 beam, and the draft is 28'. The MOS is 1020' long, 157.5 beam, and the draft is 29'. I think the locks are about 118' wide, so if they pump her up enough MOS should fit.
Well the largest a ship can be to go through the Canal is 965' long, 106' beam, and 39.5' draft. Both the MOTS and the FOTS are too large to go through the Canal. However, they can both can go all the way around South America.
