He hasn't talked to them yet- he has 10 days. I am confident after reading here and talking ot people locally that he will get deferred. I would not go with the insurance route and prefer the begging and groveling route. We once had locals tell me to include a patio table when I declared damage from a hail storm....even the adjuster expected me to claim the table that had been broken 2 weeks prior in a wind storm. I did not claim it and hope others refrain from it..because not onlyo we all physically pay for it..but it makes you feel like ka-ka.

Thanks for the great Jury duty advice and as soon as he calls we'll let you know. We are grudgingly prepared to go without him if push comes to shove.

You need to call ASAP they are very easy to work with but you need to do it soon I was called for jury selection in Dec and then again in Jan, had vacations booked/planned each time and the first time they deferred it til Jan, the second time they just cancelled it. Usually this far in advance it's not even technically jury duty, it's jury selection, and there's no guarantee he'll be selected so I wouldn't cancel your trip for that at all! Good luck & let us know what happens

Also, I still urge you to get travel insurance -- not for the jury duty situation, obviously, but to cover anything else you might encounter either before or during your cruise.

I second that on getting insurance. Bare minimum is the cruise-care insurance purchased from the cruise line, but I take it further and get it from Tom Ogg who has an ad on Cruise Reviews.com This covers medical evacs and a whole lot of other stuff not available through the first one mentioned.
