Hello! I am fairly new here and I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that have cruised with children before- I need to know what RCCL charges for kids to go if they are staying in the room with you. What about babies (under a year or two) also? Thanks in advance!

Hi Cookies and welcome to Cruise Chat.

Some cruise lines have special pricing for children; Royal Caribbean is not one of them. Royal Caribbean charges a reduced rate for the third and fourth person in your cabin, no matter what the age, even babies. So the third-person rate is lower than the first and second persons' rate, but is the same rate whether that third person is 2 or 102.

Royal Caribbean does have minimum age restrictions on their ships. I think in the Caribbean, babies have to be at least 6 months old to cruise. The age is higher, probably a minimum age of 1 year, in the Mediterranean and other itineraries.

Royal Caribbean doesn't have any special rates for children. The first two passengers in a cabin will pay the double occupancy rate. The 3rd and 4th passenger in that same cabin will pay a lower rate. The rate will vary from cruise to cruise. For cruises leaving from the states a child must be at least six months old.

On some lines, like Costa, children cruise free. I think NCL did that promotion as well. If you're using a travel agent, they should know which cruise lines will give you the best rates for children. They should also know the minimum age requirement as well. A good travel agent that specializes in cruises is worth their weight in gold. You can do it yourself, too, just takes a lot of work and phone calls. Most of the internet sites will do precious little, if anything, to answer your questions.

If you will be cruising with children, you can be assured that Royal Caribbean is first class in handling children in their Adventure Ocean program. They break it down into different age groups and have activities that suits the ages groups. The children love it so much that they are sad when they have to leave it every evening.
