I read on another crusie chat site that when leaving Montego Bay and returning to the ship that the men are taken into a tent and strip searched by soldiers with guns. Has anyone else ever had this happen? We are cruising on the Freedom April 29 and my husband has nothing to hide but really does NOT want to be strip searched. Any feedback would be appreciated.

October 15, 2006, will be our fourth cruise to Jamaica. I have never had this happen to me our anyone in our group.

I have heard you could pay to have this done to you in Jamaica if you are so inclined. However, it is expensive and usually performed outside the cruise terminal.

Security is tight at the terminal, but they are not doing routine strip-seaches of men. Think about it for a moment. If that is what they were doing, then if I were planning to smuggle contraband aboard I'd just place it on the women passengers. Now if someone were suspected of having drugs on them, then yes, they are probably given the full treatment. And also, what kind of publicity would that be for a city trying to promote tourism. "Come to Montego Bay and let us do a body cavity search!"

The terminal had two security lanes when I was there in June. One had an x-ray machine and metal detector, just like an airport. The other line didn't and therefore they were manually checking all bags and packages and doing pat-downs of the passengers. No one was stripped and the pat-down was a cursory thing that lasted maybe 5 seconds. One thing I did note is that female officers were patting men down too. We went over to the other line and went through the metal detector.

I guess whatever keeps you safe...If they decide to do that to me, it pretty much wont be the first time I guess...In December of 2001 after 9/11 I was on a business trip to Boston and when I was leaving Boston they pulled me behind a curtain and had me take off my shoes and lift my shirt and they pretty much searched me good...I made a joke to the guy, but he didnt think it was funny...

I don't believe it. If it was true, I'd stay on the ship for sure.

If they had probable cause, it might happen, but as a rule, no. If they thought you were concealing a weapon or drugs, yes.

We were in Montego Bay on the Freedom in July and nothing like that happened. They only scanned everything we were carrying and had us walk thru a security thing like at the airport.
