Not sure if this is appealing to anyone else BUT--on October 17th--this Wednesday--there is 1/2 price deposits on new bookings and an onboard credit--thought I would pass that along!

Seems my travel agent who gave me a quote and then same day (later in evening) when I mention this booking backtracks on the price quote and shipboard credit they had given. Do travel agents not like this reduced deposit day and if you are a travel agent and don't mind and would like some business let me know---booking 2-3 cabins at least this day.

Travel agents don't have a problem with reduced deposits. In fact, we like reduced deposits if it encourages people to book cruises, who might otherwise hesitate because the full deposit may be too difficult to handle.

The amount of the onboard credit depends on the length of the cruise. The longer the cruise, the more the credit.

Note that the cruise has to be reserved and deposited on October 17 to qualify for the reduced deposit and onboard credit. It has other restrictions, such as not being combinable with stockholders or group rates, etc.

I am not overly impressed with this so-called sale. The fine print excludes other discounts including stockholder credits, group rates, etc. Many of us would do better using group rates coupled with stockholder discounts, Diamond discounts, etc. My only caution is to "look before you buy."

You also can not cancel a previous reservation and make a new one on this day or RCCL will void the special pricing according to the fine print.

Funny thing about this one day sale yesterday... It's still on and will be tomorrow as well. I had a client who booked a quad months ago and I got an email saying "please cancel his booking". He didn't state the reason. He then attempted to book the same cruise direct with RCCL. Not only would they not honor the promotion (always look for the little asterisk, *for new bookings only) they had no more quad cabins for his sailing date in the category and price he originally had. So today I get a pleading phone call asking me to reinstate his booking. Unfortunately his cabin is sold and can't be put back together.

Before you ever try and cancel a booking be sure you know what you're in for. Consequences for trying to get a few buck worth of onboard credit can be substantial. If he'd asked me or told me why he wanted to cancel I could have researched it. Under the circumstances I may have given him the onboard credit to save the booking, it was a substantial booking.

Cheers, Neil

Neil,

Your client has paid the price for getting the cruising equivalent of a gambler's greed.

Another reason why it is always a good idea to use an agent. They can keep you out of trouble!

Ain't that the truth! If they would have just asked, Neil would have had a chance to explain the restrictions. I guess some folks just don't realize that certain cabin types and locations are commodities. Bet they will know next time!

I feel sorry for Neil, but not for his client. Because of a panic of greed, both Neil, and his client lost out. I could never be a travel agent...
