This is our 1st cruise and we are going to the Western Carribean on Celebrity, Horizon. We have heard that there are no self laundry facilities on board. Should we pack a travel iron or can we request onefrom housekeeping? We also heard we should bring our own hairdryer if we want a good reliable one. True or false. Thanks

You'll enjoy your cruise, and become a cruise lover, I'm sure. Don't overpack. With all the cruises we've done, I needed an iron once to touch up a shirt. Pack carefully at home, and you really won't need one. As far as a hair dryer is concerned, we sailed on the Constellation in August. The hair dryers are OK, just different than what I'm used to. With the very strict regulations on size and weight with the airlines, I personally, wouldn't pack these extras that would add to both. People are on a cruise to have a good time, and nobody will notice an extra wrinkle or 2. Have fun, relax, and enjoy the sun. I'm sure you will. Housekeeping will not give you an iron. They are considered a fire hazzard on board. They will iron your clothes for a nominal fee.

I bring a traveling iron when sailing on ships without a self-service laundry room. However, if you don't want the hassle, or concerned about luggage space, I have used a spray-on product called "Wrinkle Free" with much success. It comes in a small travel size container and can be purchased at any travel store.

Had no problem. Just pack some extra underwear. Plan, plan, plan. There are lots of packing threads and links from which you may collect information.

Like Deb says . . . "I don't like doing laundry at home, why would I stand in line to do it on vacation?"

I don't think any cruise lines wants you to bring an iron to use in your room...like someone else said, they're a fire hazard! Some ships have do it yourself laundry facilities although most don't. Pack carefully, read the hints and tips from seasoned travelers elsewhere on this board, and heck, what's a few wrinkles amongst friends???
