We have sailed out of canaveral before and have always been suggested to make a noon or later flight when possible. We are leaving this time out of Lauderdale and I know the airport is much closer. How early should we cut off at? Hubby is looking at a 10 am flight? We were off soveriegn by 7:30 am. Is 10 am pushing it?

Yep, 10:00 am is pushing it. When it states you will arrive at 7:00 am it does not necessarily mean you will be off the ship at 7:00. You have to go through immigration and cutoms first, most times you are not off the ship until close to 9:30 or so. Unless you want to do the self-embarkation, which means you carry ALL your luggage off the ship, then you will be some of the first to leave. But keep in mind, they will not allow disembarkation until ALL have cleared. We have waited to disembark while peoples names were being called over the loud speaker continuously. Sometimes they might be foreigners and have to pick up their passports, or clear customs.

We just got off the Glory this past week-end and we were the 5th group called off after the self -disembarking people got off, and it was still 10:00 am before we got off.

I would make the flight for at least 12:00 or later.

I would make it at least noon. You have to remember that most airlines tell you to be at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight. For a 10 am flight, that would put you needing to be at the airport by 8:30. If there is any travel time involved, say 30 minutes, well, you can see how quickly you run out of time. It is better to loaf than to be rushed in my opinion. Good luck.

Although the travel time from Port Everglades to Ft. Lauderdale International is about 5 minutes, custom and immigration clearing the ship is another story. Last year at Christmas they didn't clear our ship until 11:00am. Of course, there were 8 ships in port at that time, but they will be your biggest delay. Normally, we are cleared by 9:00-9:30, but just be aware it can happen. Best wishes and have a wonderul cruise!

I'd try to talk your huppy a flight closer to noon, that way you can enjoy a good breakfast on the ship before going to the airport. I think you can make a 10am flight, but you will really be pushing it.

Hi, My name is Tabitha. I am fairly new to cruising (first time last december)I have a similiar question, only mine is about arriving. I'll be on the Enchantment on December 15-20th. Sailing at 5pm. My friend and I booked our flight today and the earliest they had will put us in Fort Lauderdale at 1:45. I was told by my Travel Agent and other people that we will be fine because the aiport is close to the terminal. Is this true? Can I stop worrying now http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...icon_smile.gif

Hope you all have a great upcoming week!!

Where are you flying in from? I live in Wisconsin, and I would never book a flight the day of cruise in the month of December because of the weather. We're booked on a direct from Milwauee to Ft. Lauderdale a week from Monday, scheduled to arrive at noon. We are sailing on the Enchantment also, which is leaving the same day. I wouldn't worry about arriving at 1:45, as long as you don't have any connecting flights that could get delayed. If I have to use connecting flights, or if it's during winter, I always fly in the day before and check into a hotel.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. We are flying from North Carolina to Tampa and then Tampa to Fort Lauderdale.

Good, at lease weather isn't an issue. Too bad you couldn't get a direct flight into Ft. Lauderdale or Miami.

Tabitha,

I am also in N.C, what part are you in? I would highly recommend you change that flight. It is better safe than sorry and the airlines are getting horrible at being on time. Worse yet, you might arrive and none of your luggage get there. I don't mean to worry you more, but instead, give you some advice from past experience. We have our flights booked from Charlotte direct to Miami. There are a few from Greensboro and Raleigh that are direct into Ft. Lauderdale I believe. We always fly down the day before but if I had to arrive the day of the cruise, I would want an early flight, something that arrived by 9 or 10 am. Sometimes, those arrival times get pushed back in a hurry and with you arriving at 1:45, you are pushing it. That only leaves you slightly over 3 hours till the ship leaves. You most likely need to be onboard at least 30 minutes, if not longer, prior to departure. Now, you are down to less than 3 hours. Throw in an hour getting your luggage and transportation to the terminal and you can see that you are rapidly running out of time. ANYTHING can happen to cause an airline to delay or cancel a flight. It will cost you $50 now to change your ticket but I would highly consider it. Remember this, if you miss the ship, it will be you that will be broken hearted and the TA will just say they are sorry. I would seriously rethink these plans.
