RCL Credit Card Questions

I have applied for this credit card. One of its promotions is 15,000 points with first qualifying purchase. What is a qualifying purchase. Also, if I book my cruise through an agent do I get the double points? What other advantages have you found using this card?

Go here and read the terms and conditions link. The bonus points are awarded if you use the card to buy something or get a cash advance within the first two billing cycles.

The card is administered by Bank Of America. I've had one for about 6 months but haven't redeemed any points yet. That is not an especially easy thing to do from what I can tell. You have to order coupons for the points you are redeeming and those coupons have to be submitted at the time of the booking by your agent. At least that is my understanding.

We have used the credit cards for about two years now and had no problems. For every 5,000 points you can get $50 shipboard credit. Just make sure to give yourself enough time to redeem them since it's all done by mail. The certificates only took a few days to get to us, then we signed them and put our cabin number, ship and sailing date on them and mailed them back. It took a few weeks to post, but was all in order when we boarded. There's nothing better than shipboard credit!

I use my card to purchase all my cruises, and I get double points. I redeemed points for a cruise last year, and I'll probably do it again this year.

How would it work if you wanted to use the points to upgrade your stateroom? Do you request the certificate first?

Off-topic, but do the double points only apply to charging the actual cruise to the card?

I'm wondering if there is any extra benefit to using the card while on the ship too, by having it be the card hooked up to your SeaPass.

The only time you get the double points is when you book a cruise. Sometimes when some of my family member take a cruise the same time as we do, I put their cruise on my card and they pay me. That helps get the points I need for a free cruise.

Don't you get double points for using the credit card on board? I thought it was for any RC purchases.

Yes, if you use the card for any Royal Caribbean purchases you get the double points. We always use it for our seapass. Sorry, I should have made that point clear before.
