What does a person suggest that I put in my carry on bag for the first day I arrive on the ship, while the rest of the luggage is going to the room, first cruise and just looking for suggestions on what I should keep with me while I wait for the luggage to arrive in my room.
Thanks you guys are all great answering first time cruisers questions, keep up the great work!!!
First, of course, is to keep any cruise documents, passport, medications you may need the rest of the day, a change of clothes for when you get on the ship, perhaps something else to wear to the casual dinner the first night, sunglasses, book.
Depending on the size of your carry-on, you may want to carry additional items such as small toilet kit with toothbrush, hair brush, etc.
I've heard of luggage arriving within an hour of embarkation, and also arriving the next day. I hope yours arrives quickly.
Also, make sure that any valuables (jewelry, currency, and electronics especially) are kept with you in your carry ons. You can store them in the safe upon entering your stateroom. You may also want to consider keeping swimsuits and sunscreen in the carry on in case you want to hit the pool prior to the arrival of your luggage.
Meds, makeup, valuables, change of clothing, tickets, passports....size of your carryon will dictate what to pack....your luggage should appear a few ours after getting on board, but then again....it might not...Just be prepared...Happy Sailing...
The others here have given you everything you need. Most importantly, your meds and proper documents should be with you. The sunscreen, bathing suit, flipflops and something to wear to dinner that first night. (which is casual on the first night)
Have a blast!!!!!
Does the cruise line allow you to carry on all your own luggage or do you HAVE to give it up at the port? I have heard that you can carry off all your own luggage at the end of the cruise. But I would like that they want to x-ray all the luggage that goes on the ship. Anyone know if you can self carry all your luggage on the ship? Thanks
Luggage carried aboard must fit in a standard airport-sized x-ray machine. This means that if you happen to be able to put everything in a couple carry-on sized bags then you can take all your stuff aboard. But typically this is not possible and so most luggage has to be handed over to the porters on the pier.
Dave,
That's an excellent question. But I would appreciate a little more clairifcation. Just to say luggage would have to fit through the x-ray machine, does that also mean it would have to fit airline carry on size (i.e. overhead compartment)?
Thanx,
Erika

I personally wouldn't carry my luggage onboard as your room may not be ready and you have to tote those bags wherever you go. We had a small carry on and just that was a pain to tote. I heard that the earlier you get to the ship the later your luggage is delivered to your room. I guess cause the early bird's luggage is on the bottom of the pile. Oh well, I'd rather get to the ship early...so I don't miss anything
Yes, the only thing you can carry on would be the same size as your airplane carry on. I would make sure to have one change of clotes, swimwear and maybe some basic toiletries as well as all required meds to be on the safe side.
