I have some somewhat sensitive friends coming with me on a cruise that starts in Baltimore, Maryland and goes up to Canada (On Grandeur of the Seas). Is the Northern Atlantic more choppy than the Caribbean cruises, and what are some solutions to sea sickness?

The waters of the Caribbean are very smooth compared to the North Atlantic. Or at least that has been my experience. My last trip up through the north was not bad at all. If they have a tendency to be a risk for motion sickness, you can purchase over the counter dramamine or they make a patch that is barely noticeable once placed behind the ear. If for some reason you forget, Royal Caribbean's onboard infirmary dispenses Bonine, another motion sickness medicine, for free.

Alright, thanks a lot for the info. Does anyone know if it being summertime will affect the "roughness" of the seas more than say, fall time would?

I would think that summer is less volitale than fall/winter but any given week will be different. I would say don't worry about the weather, book the cruise and enjoy! Don't worry about what you can't control.

Hi CruiseFan-85. I'm a veteran of five Canada/New England cruises, and have experienced all kinds of sea conditions -- sometimes even on the same cruise! As carlg stated, every week is different. The ports are the real draw here, and they are superb.

An apple has always worked well for me to combat mal de mer. (Which, I've experienced to Bermuda...not Canada.) A crew member told me about it years ago. Best things about it are that apples are plentiful, free, and have no side effects.

CruiseFan-Don't worry about it-the Granduer is a great riding ship,Lisa's apples(especially green ones) is a great remedy,Ginger pills and sea bands are also a good idea!

Bon Voyage,

Thanks everyone for all the advise, and well, it looks like I'm going to be stocking up on apples leading up to July 27th. I bet I can get at least a suitcase full of 'em. http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...icon_smile.gif

I know, I'm just playing. For what I paid, they had better be free and come with gold in the center...
