Freedom of the Seas - Honeymoon destination

Hi all

Firstly great site - lots of useful info!!

I'm from Ireland and myself and my fiancée are thinking of booking the Western Caribbean cruise on Freedom of the Seas next April (08) for our Honeymoon, we are both first time cruisers and have a few questions?

Are we better off with a Junior Suite over an ocean view / deluxe etc - are the staterooms that small that a suite is worth the upgrade?

Also, are there any hidden costs on board? Obviously Alcohol etc (are the prices off the scale for a beer / bottle of wine, as your obviously a captive audience) and I heard somewhere the flow rider is also a pay per use?

Any info anyone can give me or point me towards posts I may not have found would be greatly appreciated ... Thanks all !!

I would highly suggest a room with a balcony. You don't have to get the suite unless you want the extra room. We have taken 2 cruises (1st one was our honeymoon) and we've had a balcony room both times. It is very nice to sit on the balcony in the morning and the evening.

You pay for alcohol on the ship, I have found Royal Caribbean to be reasonable for mixed drinks. It is better to get a bottle of wine then to order it by the glass. If you go to the main dining room for dinner and don't finish a bottle they will keep it for you and bring it out the next night. You pay for soda (or can buy a soda card). If you go to the specialty restaurant you pay for that. Of course any souvenirs you pay for. I have not been on the Freedom yet so I don't know about the flow rider. I would highly suggest flying in the day before you cruise. Makes things a lot less hectic the day of the cruise.

Hello wfinn, welcome to Cruise-Chat. The Freedom is a great choice. There was no charge to use the Flowrider when I was on the Freedom in October. I would definately book a stateroom with a balcony.
