I am curious...has anyone or does anyone know of someone who "won big" in a casino on a ship. I know they don't have it as a draw, but rather an activity while on board. It's fun either way, but I was wondering if anyone had their tab paid by their winnings.
Only once, on the Sea Princess, first night out. Someone hit the dollar slots for $10K. Paid for their cruise and then some. I donated plenty to make up for it. Sure didn't do it twice on the same cruise! Once on the last day I was sitting next to a gentleman who hit 4 aces on the dollar video poker machine 5 times in less than 10 minutes. That grossed him $4K, but I don't know how much he had spent up until then, again I only donated.
Winning BIG at the craps table or blackjack is just like any Casino, it happens if you know the game and have a little luck. Winning with the slots and other electronic machines (that can be programmed to pay anyway they please) is much less frequent.
I seldom win in the casino. I'm betting the the cruiselines love to see me book each time. I do enjoy playing and just consider it the price of entertainment. My wife however is incredibly lucky. She doesn't understand the odds, plays machines she doesn't even understand what to do when she sits down and she wins frequently. I'll sometimes tell her at the blackjack table, "the dealer's got a 6, don't hit that!". She does as she pleases and my stack falls as hers climbs. Go figure.
Yes Marcus27, that is EXACTLY why my avitar is the cards.
And Hank, you are correct. I don't play the slots. I stick to the Craps table and Blackjack games where knowing what you are doing can tilt the odds a little more in you favor. (But even then the Casino still has the better of you.) Luck and knowing when to quit after hitting that lucky streak instead of giving it all back to them is the key.
Meanwhile, I'm sitting at my video poker machines feeding the kitty. On that Sea Princess cruise, the casino host felt so sorry for me, he gave me a tote bag, t-shirt and cap. At least I went away with something
