Asbestos on Cruise Ships

I have been reading up on Asbestos and Cruise ships. It seems it is a disturbing situation. Seems the cruising industry has used asbestos for years. Since these are foreign made ships, they don't have to comply with the stricter US guidelines. Seems I read that RCCL had bigger issues, but I can't find the specifics. Carl- Not to belittle your concern because asbestos is a serious issue, but the article your link pointed to was discussing a cargo ship which had asbestos dust in the hold after having carried a load of it the shipment before.
I'm not sure how this pertains to cruise ships having asbestos on them.

And I do not doubt that they do. The use of asbestos is not illegal, it is still used today in the US in many applications. It is perfectly safe if applied properly and removed properly. The dangers come when used where its dust can escape and be breathed.

Thanks Jim. There were a few links and I think I attached the wrong one. It was an afidavit from a court hearing on the Majestic Cruise Line. Just for clarity, here was the post that was intended.

Oh, and in an unrelated but related statement. The older ship did use saltwater for the toilets. I know Raoul posted that it was re-used freshwater, but cruise ships in the past have used saltwater (this is in the afidavit as well....Item #12).

I'm not sure that psychocruisers question was fully appreciated on the freshwater/saltwater portion.

Is that why RCI's opaque "Save the Waves" program came into being? I'm too lazy to look it up. Anyone know offhand?
