does anyone know of any special things for groups to do aboard an rccl boat? we are a group of 20 people cruising in march and was wondering if there were any group parties or special recognition of groups onboard? We are from Maine and crusing the caribbean...we;ve got some excited people going on this ship.

Yes, you will need to contact RCCL to arrange it. These things really need to be reserved before the cruise starts. Your agent should be able to arrange a party. And, yes, it will cost you. I cannot tell you how much, since that depends on the specific arrangement you make. However, it usually isn't a terribly high figure - it really has a lot to do with the time of day and where the ship is on that day.
There is no charge to reserve an area of a bar or conference room for you group. However, if you want to add drinks, food, etc., then of course there is a charge for that if your group consists of fewer than 50 people.
I just escorted a family reunion birthday cruise where we had a party room (no charge) with a birthday cake, coffee, tea, water, and set-ups, all of which carried an extra charge.
Sandy, I remember reserving a portion of the Navigator Club on the Mercury a few years ago. This was for a SeaLetter Cruise Bash and we had around 100 people in our group. We had canapes, a musical trio, and dedicated bar service. The agent organized all of it and I believe she rolled the cost into the cruise fare.
Certainly there are costs that an agent can build into the cost of a cruise, including cocktail party, pre-paid gratuities, etc. Most cruise lines will give you a free hour-long cocktail party including cold appetizers if you have 50 or more people. Hot appetizers may mean extra charge (or "points" a travel agent can use) or may be free with an even larger group.
The group I escorted this weekend had 22 people, so the room was free but the cake etc was extra. A great time was had by all! It was a surprise birthday party.
