Hello All!
This is my first time cruising! I am so excited just a few more days! My boyfriend and I decided that we needed a vacation and cruising was cheap and fun to plan. Anyone else going to be on this trip? Well I guess I just need to ask if there is anything special I need to remember. I am one of those over-packing females and am trying to weed out things as I am writing this... Also any other tips or pointers you have would be great!
Mixed drinks are in the $5 to $9 range depending on what you order. It isn't too hard to stay down on the lower end and still have a nice cocktail. Beer is $3-$4. Bear in mind that a 15% gratuity is automatically added to each bar sale - this is where the hard working bar waiters and bartenders get their income.
Also, please don't pack booze and try to bring it aboard. That is against the cruise line rules.
About those towels - yes the ship provides them but don't lose them! You can be charged a hefty fee for lost towels. I think it is $20!
Unpack quite a bit. You will re-wear stuff as you will spend a lot of time in your swim suit. Especially things you are planning for dinners can be doubled up. Remember, your stateroom isn't like a hotel room. You will unpack your suitcase to free up floor space (it should store under your bed or the steward can store it for you) and everything will have to go back in on the last night. IMPORTANT: the last night you will put your bags in the hall to be taken through customs, be sure to save out something to wear in the morning. Always seems to be someone in night clothes trying to get their luggage back!

Even after all of our cruises, we still bring more clothes than we need and always have things we never wore but just carted from home and back. It is a hard habit to break but we've gotten better over the years.
So all I can say is that Laurie is absolutely correct - be critical of how much stuff you bring with you. Most cruisers pack way too much stuff.
I am getting on the Grandeur on May 1. Anyone else going on this cruise? This will be my fourth cruise and the second time on the Grandeur. i can't wait!
