I'm new around here. We went on a carnival cruise earlier this year and I organised a bottle of whisky to be delivered to our cabin, 'cos Carnival won't let you take on yoiur own drinks. Now I don't mean to sound like an alcoholic, but do I do the same on Royal Caribbean?

Hello Grandma Dottie, welcome to Cruise-Chat. The best you're going to get is a bottle of wine delivered to your cabin. Most cruise lines are really clamping down on alcohol in any of the staterooms. Some people try to pack in their luggage, but if caught, it will be confiscated.
Hi Sonny,
I am replying to an old reply of yours because it relates to my first post on this forum. I have heard about the cruise lines cracking down on bringing alcohol on board and will confiscate it if they find it in your suitcase. My question is, do they really rifle through your suitcases looking for it? Not an alcoholic by any means, just trying to have my fav on board! Thanks!
SonnyV, I've never tried on RCL to have a bottle delivered to my room, but most cruise lines will let you purchase in-room gift packages of alcohol. Does Royal not have those available for purchase? I'm sending one to some friends cruising on HAL, I can purchase it on line and have it delivered to their cabin when sailing. I know Princess has packages you can purchase. Maybe I should just check out the website, but thought you might know for sure.
Hi Penny, you can sent your friends a bottle of wine. This I know for sure because I always have a bottle on ice when I first walk into my cabin (compliments of RCCL). Wine is the only alcohol allow to be delivered to a cabin. There use to be an outside service that delivered special packages. I don't know if they are still doing it.
If you buy a bottle of wine on the ship they keep it for you until the last night. You can order a bottle of wine for your dining room table if you want. Just let the waiter know you would like some wine.
On our last cruise we were paranoid about bringing anything onboard but after our third port and seeing a intoxicated passenger get on with three bottles of rum without a bag. I felt stupid being so uptight. Maybe it is just who you get at the time.

Your luggage is sent through an X-ray type imaging scanner for security purposes, just as the airlines do. If they see something suspicious of being contraband, they will hold your luggage, then call you to open it and if they find alcohol they will usually confiscate it and return it to you at the end of the trip. It is also in your cruise contract that if you violate this policy they can refuse boarding to you, and put you off the ship without a refund. No they do not rifle through your luggage without your knowledge.
